Ask a Therapist: How can therapy be helpful to me?

By Dr. Courtney Klein

Here is some great advice from one of our psychologists, Dr. Courtney Klein about how therapy can help you to get out of repetitive patterns:

Ending the Repetitive Cycle

"Do you ever notice how the same kinds of challenges keep coming up again and again? The same dating experiences and break-ups, the same negative behaviors, the same job stress? We don't need to remain trapped in a repetitive loop.

Each of us is capable of making change in our lives, and sometimes we just need a little help to get started.

It’s time to finally look at these unhelpful loops and learn how to make changes so that life can be better.

Most of us were not raised to know what to do for ourselves when we're having difficult moods or don't feel quite right in our relationships with others. We can choose to just "push through" and ignore the problems, or we can embrace these early signals that something is off and make a change.

Rather than let these things continue to make life unsatisfying and stressful, talking with the therapist can help you turn the corner into a less stressful and more joyful life.

Talking with a therapist can help

Getting an outside perspective from a professional who isn't enmeshed in your life can be greatly beneficial. In our friendships and family relationships we tend to go back and forth, and often we aren't able to offer solutions to our loved ones problems, though we can offer support and a shoulder to lean on in tough times.

A good therapist has specialized training in how to go beyond just being a listening ear and actually help you implement important changes in your life.

Why not finally get into that satisfying relationship you desire? Why not make the investment in yourself so that you can finally feel good about yourself everyday? Why not find someone who knows how to help you learn to manage difficult moods?

Once you realize what may be holding you back, and get the support you need to change it, life can be a lot better on the other side."
